Although it may appear difficult, obtaining a motorbike driving license in Nepal is simple if you follow the correct procedures. This comprehensive guide will make the process easy for you.
Make sure you fulfill the following prerequisites before submitting an application for a motorcycle driver's license:
Minimum bike license age in nepal: To apply for a two-wheeler (motorbike or scooter) license, you must be at least 16 years old.
Required Documents:
Citizenship Certificate: A copy of your Nepali citizenship certificate or a valid residency permit if you are a foreigner.
Blood Group Certificate: You can get this from hospitals or certified medical labs.
Visit your office on appointment day and provide biometric details and you also need to do health tests (mostly eye sight test). After that you need to pay amount for written test.
Your written test date will be published in the website or official social media page of your Transportation office so you need to check regularly.
Once you get your exam visit date, you need to prepare for the Exam. You can learn through online resources and you can also get books for exam preparation in stationery stores nearby.
The written exam tests your knowledge of traffic rules, road signs, and basic driving safety principles.
To prepare for written test:
Study Traffic Rules: Learn about the speed limits, right-of-way regulations, traffic lights, and road signs in Nepal. Also learn about basics of handling two wheeler, the gear system and clutch and other essentials.
Attend the Written Test: On the scheduled date, visit the Transport office with your application slip and documents. The exam will consist of multiple-choice questions.
Important: You must pass the written exam to move forward with the practical test. If you fail, you can retake the exam after a certain waiting period.
Your written test result will be published on the same day or, in some cases, a day later on the website of the Office of Transportation, so you need to check regularly. Your next phase, which is the practical driving test (trial), will be scheduled based on the availability of test dates. The trial date may vary depending upon the transport office. You can get this information on the website itself.
Once you’ve passed the written exam, it’s time to showcase your riding skills in the practical driving test. On trial day, get your applicant card and take original citizenship . You will need to give test on bikes provided by the examiner. In some cases you can give trial exam with your own vehicles but that process is a bit difficult.
On trial you will be tested on:
Starting and stopping the bike smoothly.
Riding through cones to demonstrate control.
Making U-turns and driving around a circle.
Using signals and following traffic rules.
Passing this test requires good coordination and understanding of road safety.
Once you pass the test and collect your application from the examiner, you can see passed written in your card.
After some days of passing the trial, you need to visit the transport office again in order to pay taxes for your driving license, after which you can get the slip with your license number mentioned in it. You can also see you digital license in license check section of DOTM website and also in Nagarik app. However, it takes quite a lot of time to get physical printed license card.

In case if you failed trial, you can apply for re-trial after few days of the trial day. You can give trial 2 more times within 90 days.
